Since the inception of deathcore, countless bands have taken the crisp style in ambitious new directions, including Veil of Maya, who adopted pop elements on their latest single, “Outrun”. There is also a section that should thrill Iron Maiden fans.

Although the group, founded in 2004, has not released a new album since 2017 False Idol, they kept fans at least partially sated with individual songs – “Members Only of 2019”, “Outsider” of 2020 and “Viscera,” which was released earlier this year.

On “Outrun,” the group’s evolution is on display as they present pop / R & B sounds amid jarring beats, using clear, harsh vocals to complement opposing styles. The biggest surprise, however, are the guitar harmonies at the 2:43 mark in the track, which are unmistakably similar to “The Trooper” from the 1983 Iron Maiden album, Peace of mind, an intentional nod to heavy metal legends, as the band confirmed with Loudwire.

Listen to “Outrun” and read the lyrics to the song below.

In an interview with Full Metal Jackie earlier this year, singer Lukas Magyar commented on the band’s recent sonic developments and said, “We follow the way things are in our own musical realm, but also try to stay on top. what’s going on outside of that, even in pop culture. We can add our own twist to things and pull a lot of influences from different areas, whether it’s our own loves or other styles of music. I take a lot of inspirational lyrics from movies and books, so you pick whatever catches your eye. “

Veil of Maya, “Outrun” Lyrics

Relieve of your lifeless avatar
To augment
Wake up from the lifeless form that you are
To wake up

I feel nauseous from the free fall
I see three of everything
I can’t mix my feet
I would take the lead but I’m in a pile now
look away
Out of sight and out of mind

Don’t bring me back
Take me back
I will not arrive there
Make come back
He chases me
I need to run further than this sleuth

I feel nauseous from the free fall
I see three of everything
I can’t mix my feet
I would take the lead but I’m in a pile now
look away
Out of sight and out of mind

Why i don’t feel like home
Why i feel like a ghost
My movement
Like a drone
Blood dog
Always stalking you
