Meghan Markle walked down the aisle of St George’s Chapel in Windsor and said ‘yes’ to Prince Harry in May 2018. The couple not only became husband and wife on this very special day, but also the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. In an interview with Meghan’s wedding dress designer, Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller explained the first time she met the bride and how they came to include a very important aspect in Meghan’s veil.
In 2018, Clare told The Royal Family Channel and recalled the conversations she and Meghan had about her wedding dress.
Claire said: ‘I had never worked with Meghan before but she contacted me at the end of last year and I admire her charity work tremendously so that was something I was very interested in. to meet her.
“It was really quite extraordinary [when she asked me to design her dress] and brought me back – “I am so flattered and incredibly proud to be a part of this wonderful time, I am so excited to be working with you”.
“What I really felt was that she had an idea of what she wanted and of course in a moment like this when you are designing a dress there are a lot of ideas that are going around – I really believe we’ve worked very closely together on bringing ideas to the table.

“We talked about what we wanted to do in terms of embracing some of the royal connections in there, and a lot of the work she’s probably going to do in the future will likely be Commonwealth-related.
“So that was something that I really thought I could be pretty convincing.”
Claire explained, “Part of the veil talk was ‘What are we going to do?’
“Would that be a lace edge, a border, and I said” wouldn’t it be amazing if we took the 53 countries of the Commonwealth and embroidered the flower and flora and fauna of each one of them? them and they would go up the aisle – this trip down the aisle with you? ‘
“It’s a wonderful enveloping aspect of the whole ceremony. ”
Royal fans loved the dress and many commented on its simplicity.

For the evening reception, Meghan chose a white dress from designer Stella McCartney.
A statement from Kensington Palace at the time read: “The bride’s evening gown is designed by Stella McCartney and is a custom high neck white silk crepe dress.
“The bride wears Aquazurra shoes in silky satin, with nude mesh, with soles painted in baby blue.”
