Kunnamkulam: Police have yet to solve the mystery of Thursday’s accident involving a KSRTC-SWIFT bus in Kunnamkulam.
The SWIFT bus driver, Vinod, from Kottayam, was questioned by the police and later released. He received a notice asking him to report to the police station at any time when he wishes.
Periya Swamy, 55, from the Alathur Industrial Estate in Vijayapuram, Tamil Nadu, was killed in an accident outside the city’s Mahatma Gandhi shopping complex at 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
CCTV visuals show the SWIFT bus rolling over Periya Swamy’s legs. It is alleged that this happened after he was hit by a van moments before.
The police stopped the bus and the van after the accident. A case has been filed against the drivers of the two vehicles on charges of murder not constituting culpable homicide.
It is unclear if the van hit him the first time or if he injured his head trying to get away from the speeding vehicle.
The confusion over the crash led to numerous savage social media campaigns, linking it all to the newly launched KSRTC-SWIFT bus services.
The flayed police
Part of the population claimed that the police investigation had not been effective. Although the police took the statement from the driver of the van the same day of the accident, there was no breakthrough.
Meanwhile, police said scientific evidence in the case had been collected and follow-up action would be taken soon.
Periya Swamy’s body was handed over to his next of kin following the completion of his autopsy at Government Medical College.
