‘Calvaire’ – The 2004 Belgian horror film gets an HD remaster from Yellow Veil Pictures [Exclusive]

Bloody Disgusting learned this afternoon that Yellow Sail Pictures have acquired all North American distribution rights for the HD remaster of Fabrice du Welz2004 Belgian horror film Calvary. Released at the height of the New French Extremity movement, Calvary follows a traveling entertainer who falls victim to a dangerously unhinged innkeeper bent on keeping him captive. The remaster’s US premiere will take place next month as part of the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival.

As du Welz’s first feature film, Calvary was to become the first part of his thematic trilogy of the Ardennes (alongside that of 2014 Alleluia and 2019 Worship) and immediately define the young director as a voice to watch in Belgium. Calvary is inspired not only by the contemporary extreme cinema of France and Belgium, but also by emblematic works such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre create a poetically brutal study of human nature.

Yellow Veil Pictures will premiere the HD remaster in theaters in early 2023, followed soon after by digital and home video releases.
